How It Works:

Valganciclovir is converted into ganciclovir in the body, which stops CMV virus from multiplying by blocking viral DNA replication.

Dosage:

• Treatment dose: Usually 900 mg twice daily for a specified period

• Maintenance dose: Often 900 mg once daily

• Must be taken with food

• Dose adjustment as advised by doctor based on kidney function

Common Side Effects:

Fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, fatigue, low blood cell count.

Drug Interactions:

Ganciclovir, zidovudine, mycophenolate, nephrotoxic medicines, probenecid.
